new employees: Margaret Felkel and Katie Harsey, both
graduating from the Moore School of Business with Masters of
Accountancy degrees in August. The firm is also pleased to

have earned their CPA (Certified
Public Accountant) certification from the South Carolina
State Board of Accountancy.

The CPA designation is given out by the
South Carolina State Board of Accountancy. The Board grants
a license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant to
persons who complete one hundred and fifty semester hours of
college education and who pass the standardized test of
accounting knowledge, skills, and abilities approved by the
board. They must also pass an examination in professional
ethics as approved by the board and have at least one year
of accounting experience satisfactory to the board in
public, governmental, or private employment under the direct
supervision and review of a certified public accountant or
public accountant licensed
to practice accounting in some state or territory of the
United States.

Tan’s specialty includes: Tax return
preparation and Tax research, Retirement plan
administration, Financial statements compilation and review
for corporations, partnerships and individuals. Tan is more
than happy to utilize her language and culture background
along with her CPA designation to help Chinese and other
Asian business clients in the State of South Carolina.

Shaoshan, Hunan (湖南)
province in China, Tan is
fluent in Chinese and English and can speak Cantonese. She
came to the States on a Norman Graduate Scholarship to the
University of Maine. She graduated with a Masters of
Science Degree in Accounting from the University of
Cincinnati in Ohio in 2004. After school Tan worked as a
Staff
Tax Accountant
for FirstGroup America, Inc, a
multi-billion international company in Cincinnati, OH where
she focused on Corporate Tax. Tan began working at
Burkett in the fall of 2007.

Deven Fozdar,
CPA, CFE named Manager for
BURKETT BURKETT &

P.A. announced the promotion of Deven A. Fozdar to Manager.
Fozdar has been a Senior Accountant with the firm since 2000
and a Certified Fraud Examiner since 2007.
“We are pleased that Deven has achieved
manager status here at Burkett; we couldn’t be happier with
his work and commitment to ethics and good business sense,”
the Managing Partner, Ronny Burkett said.
Fozdar’s new position allows him to
manage and prepare tax returns for individuals,
partnerships, corporations and not-for-profit entities. He
also performs audits of small businesses, assists with
business valuations and litigation support cases and handles
financial fraud and forensic accounting for the firm.
Born in Bombay, India, Fozdar holds a
Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a concentration in
Accounting and Taxation from the University of Bombay. He is
Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner and
Fellow of Chartered Accountants in India. Fozdar also is
accredited as an Independent Valuator by the Institute of
Internal Auditors for performing quality assessment reviews
of internal audits.
His past work includes President of
Finance Public for a limited company in India from 1993-1999
where he managed relations with banks and financial
institutions at senior levels. He also was responsible for
obtaining financing, tax planning, financing functions,
auditing the accounts and filing of tax returns. Fozdar was
also appointed a Director on the Board of all the group
companies for Public Accounting in India.
Fozdar is a member of the South Carolina
Association of Certified Public Accountants, American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Association of
Certified Fraud Examiners, Institute of Internal Auditors,
Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Immigration
Community Access Point board member and past treasurer of
Hindu Temple & Cultural Center of South Carolina.

Amy Macchiaverna Named New Marketing Director for BURKETT

Macchiaverna will head-up the Marketing Department as
